Just activated product using Windows 8. Record function does not work. Creates a file with no sound. have set VASD as the default. The only other device showing as on is the Stereo Mix ADT High Definition Audio codec.

It worked perfectly previously.

Is this recording issue reproducible? If it worked previously, you may also try:
uninstall VAS-> restart Windows -> reinstall VAS -> reactivate VAS.

Also double check you have set VAS as the default sound card.

The FAQ and support page is:

Let me know if the problem still exists.

I'm having trouble following your procedure. When I select the Virtual device as default, the sound disappears.

To listen to sounds, you need to select your physical sound card in VAS. See the following article:

Thanks its working. One more question why is the WAV so huge. The recording only seems to start half way down.

That's depending on audio player. If you use Windows media player, VAS can remove empty data between songs. For itunes player, there might be empty audio data between songs in wav file.
